Surprise Cardinal: Mérida Archbishop Baltazar Enrique Porras Cardozo will surprisingly be made a cardinal. For the first time in Church history this gives Venezuela two resident cardinals. Sandro Magister believes that this happened in order to put Caracas Cardinal Urosa Savino in the shadows. The German Minister for the Environment, Barbara Hendricks, caused a scandal when in Berlin she received the female Iranian Vice President and head of Environmental Protection Organization, Massoumeh Ebtekar with a handshake. Iranian media took the German minister for a man. Hendricks is a self-declared lesbian who indeed looks and behaves like a male. In many societies, like in the Iranian society, it is considered outrageous for a man to shake the hand of a woman.
Non-Existent Verbal Skills: Joseph Shaw, the chairman of the English Latin Mass Society, writing about children and the New Mass, has noted that the Novus Ordo focuses on verbal communication. Shaw points out a drawback: The Novus Ordo is faced with a category of worshipers with extremely limited, or indeed non-existent, verbal skills like children and many adults.
